We ❤️ Kauai! I was born and raised on this island and here are my favorite places we take our children to. I just love showing the kids where I am from and now teaching them the things that I learned as a child brings life full circle.
Wailua Beach – Behind Wailua Golf Course
I’ve been going to this beach for as long as I can remember. We usually go to this beach for sunset fishing as we watch the sky turn pink until it gets dark. This beach is near Lydgate beach and some areas have close access to parking. However, we usually 4×4 through the sand until we reach the area behind the driving range or behind the 17th hole at Wailua Golf Course. On Kauai you are still able to have beach fires, so we collect drift wood and make a fire when we arrive. Throw the fishing poles in and wait for the fish to bite. Also we enjoy catching crabs, sand turtles and “lucky shells” that come up on shore. Lots of good memories at this beach as a child and also as a parent with my children.
Anini Beach
Kauai’s waters can be rough, so it is good to know the best beaches for toddlers and young children. Our favorite is Anini beach on the north side of the island. It felt like having a little bit of paradise to ourselves. The waters are calm as there is a reef out in the distance that blocks the rough waters from the shore. It was so beautiful that we decided to go 2 days in a row!
Lydgate Beach
Another beach we love for the Kids is Lydgate Beach Park. It is a special beach unlike any other with huge schools of parrot fish, reef fish, turtles, and I’ve even seen a 4ft trumpet fish swimming in the man-made pool. Most of the fish get into the pool when they are babies and later are too big to get out. It really is a wonder of Kauai. People can feed the fish with bread, but it is absolutely forbidden to take any fish from the pool. There are 2 man-made pools: a baby shallow water pool & the big pool with all the fish. There is a lot of parking right next to the beach.
Next to Lydgate Beach is Kamalani Playground. It is a HUGE fort style playground with lot of activities and discovering for the kids.
Grand Hyatt Kauai Pool
A great place to consider staying at is the Grand Hyatt Kauai in Poipu. It is a beautiful resort with an amazing lagoon pool, salt water pool, and right on the beach. We could spend a whole day with the kids just swimming in the pool. The neighboring beach is the popular ShipWrecks, so there are lots to do near the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort.
